Supporting local teaching with local staff has been a core principle of the Open University. This may now change: staff in Region 13 have been told they will have to relocate or lose their jobs, as the East Grinstead office is to be closed and ‘local’ support moved to Camden. Indeed, the principle of local support across all the English regions, from Gateshead to Bristol to East Grinstead, may be under threat. This is bad news for students, bad news for staff, but also bad news for the Open University.
