Green Left, statement re media coverage of Jeremy Corbyn

Green Left, the eco-socialist current within the Green Party has expressed its disapproval at the treatment of Jeremy Corbyn by much of the national media recently

In a statement Green Left said, QUOTE

"Many of us are veterans of anti-racist campaigns that Corbyn has supported and we reject the repeated suggestions that he has condoned anti-Semitism in the Labour Party as spurious  nonsense. We have political disagreements with the Labour Party but have the greatest respect for Jeremy Corbyn and his record as an anti-racist campaigner. We feel that this is a record that the mainstream media has repeatedly and deliberately ignored,

We call on the National Union of Journalists to remind its members of the fine principles in its code of conduct and in particular the first four:

“A journalist:
1.     At all times upholds and defends the principle of media freedom, the right of freedom of expression and the right of the public to be informed.
2.     Strives to ensure that information disseminated is honestly conveyed, accurate and fair.
3.     Does her/his utmost to correct harmful inaccuracies.
4.     Differentiates between fact and opinion.”
