Oligarchs, capitalism and resistance: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus

Russia has been shaken in recent weeks by a wave protests following the arrest and imprisonment of Alexei Navalny. Thousands have been beaten and arrested, but the demonstrations have not stopped.
Developments in Russia follow a series of popular rebellions against corrupt and authoritarian rulers in Belarus and Ukraine. The system and ruling elites which took shape in former USSR are being increasingly challenged by movements from below demanding democratic and social change.
So what is that system, and what do the opposition movements represent? What are the issues at stake, and what are the prospects for change? What is the left in eastern Europe saying and doing, how can we, on the western side of the continent, relate to these developments, and what should be done about the vast offshoring of oligarchs' wealth in the West?
On Saturday 13th February, join us for a discussion of what is happening in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.
Speakers include:
💥 Alexei Gusev – Praxis Centre (Moscow) Executive Committee member of the University Solidarity Union
💥 Anna Ozhiganova, of the International Commission of the University Solidarity Union
💥 Vitaliy Dudin – leading campaigner for trade union rights and of the organisation Sostialny Rukh (Social Movement) in Ukraine
💥 Valentyna Katorzhevska, Homel organization of the Free Trade Union of Metalworkers – Belarus
💥 Pavel Katarzheuski – Member of Central Committee of Belarusian left party Just World
We're hoping to see you there!
Best wishes,
Team Another Europe
