Yesterday he Coalition Government were forced to call early elections, on 25 January 2014. The latest polls predict voters will choose SYRIZA, a party committed to radical anti austerity reform.

Solidarity now more than ever 

Elites in Europe are putting pressure on the Greek people not to vote for change and will try to force a new anti austerity government to return to the path of austerity. We cannot let them succeed. See the Greece Solidarity Campaign (GSC) pledge. More to follow about signing up

A national reconstruction plan for Greece  

If they form the next Government SYRIZA are committed to implementing a national reconstruction plan in place of the austerity memoranda and international renegotiation of debts. Read more Support SYRIZA promo in pictures 

Medical Aid - action following UK delegation

GP Louise Irvine reported back to the Save Lewisham Hospital campaign - see video - and the campaign has now twinned with a solidarity health clinic in Athens. The Chartered Society of Physiotherapists and the TSSA are building support among their members. The CSP is now having a Medical Aid for Greece fringe meeting at their 2015 conference.

Support for cleaners fight continues

Marina Prentoulis, for the Greece Solidarity Campaign, met the striking cleaners on 17 December at their year long picket on the steps of the Finance Ministry in Athens. She brought with her the most recent solidarity donations from the UK, £200 from the Fire Brigades Union and £500 from the London Cleaners Branch, Unite.

If elected SYRIZA has promised to reinstate the 595 cleaners sacked for going on strike over a year ago as their wages were cut and the service privatised.

Electricity for All

The anti-austerity regional government of Attica (the region of Athens) to pay for the reconnection of disconnected households. Attica Prefect Rena Dourou “No citizen shall be deprived of basic social goods such as electricity". Read more 

Corruption in Greek mining laid bare

A recent report by the Centre for Research on Multinational Corporations details how El Dorado Gold, owner of the Skouries mine in Halkidiki, is rerouting profits through tax havens to avoid tax in Greece. It also sets out allegations of state corruption and police brutality against the community. Read more.  Support the  Save Skouries Campaign - sign the new petition by the women leading the campaign 

Fight for Democracy 

60+ members and friends of SYRIZA in the UK, mainly students or on low wages, are desperate to get home to vote in the election on January 25. So they have started a crowd funding appeal to pay for their flights. See how to support
