IT’S TIME TO TAKE OVER THE BANKS

The private banking system has failed. The banks triggered a deep recession and made workers poorer. Bankers’ scandalous practices – bumper bonuses, fraud, interest-rate fixing, tax evasion, money laundering – have continued. The banks have failed to help the economy recover.

What is needed is a publicly-owned finance industry that provides a public service. A publicly-owned and democratically accountable banking system will enable planning, investment and the creation of millions of jobs.

The TUC Congress 2012 passed an FBU resolution calling for bank nationalisation.That is historic. The union has now produced a pamphlet to carry the argument into the labour movement.
