Climate
strike organising
meeting
Wednesday 31 July, 6:30pm
Bells Gardens
Community Centre 19 Buller Close, London SE15 6UJ
Meeting called by Southwark Trades Council
Dear Trade Unionists,
The school student strikes over climate change and the actions
by Extinction Rebellion have inspired millions of people across the globe. Now
a call has gone out for a general strike to save the planet in September. On
Friday 20 September, school students will walk out in another global day of
action, and have asked others to join them. Climate change is a trade union
issue. It is very possible that the TUC will vote for
a 30 minute stoppage. The UCU is proposing the motion at TUC.
It is crucial that we respond to this call and build action in
September, and that trade unions are involved to help put working class people
at the centre of the movement for climate justice. We will be
discussing how we can mobilise for strikes, rallies and actions on
the day. Please share and come to the meeting. I'm attaching a
leaflet which can be printed. Please let me know if you would like some
leaflets to be delivered to you.
