‘Gig for Gaza’ virtual concert,

Saturday 29 May 2021

Hello everybody,

Here’s the poster for a concert we have recorded to try & make some money for the poor children of Gaza, who have suffered such trauma in recent weeks at the hands of Israeli armed forces.

The music & poetry are of the highest class and, I for one, am particularly blown away by Frances Black’s new “Song for Gaza”.

I hope you’ll enjoy the concert, brought to you by the Musicians' Union of Ireland! - Andy

[Press Release]

The Musicians’ Union of Ireland and SIPTU are presenting a ‘Gig for Gaza’ virtual concert, with performances by leading artists including Andy Irvine, Frances Black and 12 year old Palestinian rapper MC Abdul, at 8.00 p.m. on Monday, 31st May.

SIPTU Deputy General Secretary, Ethel Buckley, said: “This virtual concert is organised by the Musicians’ Union of Ireland, an affiliate of SIPTU, in response to Israel’s forced evictions in Jerusalem and its continued, illegal annexations and occupation in Palestine.

“The purpose of the concert is to raise awareness of the continued Israeli aggression and raise funds for the Middle East Children’s Alliance to provide for medical and other assistance for children in Gaza following the latest and devastating military assault on the besieged city.”

The socially distanced event will feature her new “Song for Gaza” by Frances Black and compositions by Eoghan Ó Ceannabháin and Scottish fiddle player Paul Anderson while Róísin Elsafty will sing her celebrated anthem ‘An Phalistín’.

MC Abdul will perform his internationally-acclaimed ‘Palestine [freestyle]’. Singer, Niamh Parsons with Graham Dunne, actor Sean McGinley and renowned piper, Sean McKeon will also appear.

The concert will be broadcast on Facebook and YouTube.

The public can donate through the link that will appear on screen during the concert or by visiting the Musicians’ Union of Ireland Facebook page.
