1. Feminist Book Fortnight and Anarchist Festival 2019
Feminist Book Fortnight is back for 2019 and will run from Saturday 4th to Saturday 18th May. Last year some 40 independent bookshops took part. Also at the end of May there's the second nationwide multi-venue Anarchist Festival. Housmans is helping to organise both events; check the links for full programme and also our own events programme.

As many of our events are oversubscribed we are increasingly asking for tickets to be purchased in advance. Tickets can also be bought at Housmans and there may be some spaces available on the night, but strictly on a first-come first-served basis.

4. 'A Girl's Guide to Personal Hygiene: Workshop and Conversation' with Tallulah Pomeroy

In this workshop we'll be encouraged to come into our bodies, open up, loosen up and connect. We'll learn techniques for uninhibited drawing, connecting to our bodies and our body-image. We'll break free from perfectionism and self-censorship. All are welcome.
5. '4 Brown Girls Who Write' with Roshni Goyate, Sharan Hunjan, Sunnah Khan, and Sheena Patel

Our guests draw on their recent collaborative poetry collection to explore the spaces we inhabit: the city, the home, our skins, our sexuality, and what it means to navigate these as women of colour.
6. 'Queer Heroes' book signing with illustrator Sarah Tanat-Jones
Wednesday 15th May, 6.30pm onwards – Free entry
Launch party and book signing for the beautifully illustrated 'Queer Heroes: Meet 52 LGBTQ Heroes From Past and Present!' Sarah will also be painting one of our shop windows and displaying some of the wonderful work from the book.
7. 'This Chair Rocks: A Manifesto Against Ageism' with author Ashton Applewhite

Applewhite discusses her book which explains the roots of ageism, examines how ageist myths and stereotypes cripple the way our brains and bodies function, looks at ageism in the workplace and bedroom, and imagines what an all age-friendly world would look like.

8.'Coiled Verbal Spring: Devices of Lenin's Language' with the AMM All-Stars
Wednesday 22nd May, 7pm - tickets in advance from www.housmans.com/events.php
This collection brings together the first English translation of the Russian Formalist and Futurist writings on Lenin's revolutionary language, including work by Shklovsky, Eikhenbaum, Tynyanov and others. AMM All-Stars discuss the importance of this work in dealing with the relationship between revolutionary politics and artistic forms.

9. 'Cooperation Jackson: The Struggle for Economic Democracy and Black Self-Determination in Jackson, Mississippi' with Kali Akuno

On a rare visit to London from Mississippi, we are delighted to welcome a co-founder and co-director of Cooperation Jackson, Kali Akuno, to discuss the inspiring work they have been undertaking to create sustainable community development, economic democracy, and community ownership, within the confines of a historically structurally racist state.
10. Class War Women's Death Brigade and SISTERnotCISTER discuss 'Class Politics, Feminism and the Terf War'

"From its early beginnings in 1983, women have always been at the forefront of Class War's politics. From the financing and writing of the first papers by sex workers via Madam Syn, to the Women's Death Brigade, all driven with a fury at the uptight do gooder middle class "sisters" who want to keep us down. We will be chatting about how trans liberation and the Gender Recognition Act connect so strongly to the class struggle and how the WDB and SnC are natural allies in fighting the Terf war."

Genderless societies, anarchist planets, polyamorous aliens, parthenogenesis, feminist militias, reproductive dystopias, cyborg families, and more at the Housmans Feminist Sci-Fi Book Club! Join us at the bookshop on the first Thursday of every month, 7pm-9pm. All genders welcome. Please bring drinks or snacks to share.

13. Housmans Queer Book Club
Housmans Queer Book Club is a new group that reads a wide range of LGBTQ fiction and non-fiction. We meet every second Thursday of the month from 7-8:30pm. All genders are welcome, as are any snacks, drinks and book suggestions you can bring along too. You can find future book club titles in Housmans, a 20% discount can be applied to them if you mention the group.
Thursday 9th May Rewriting the Rules by Meg John Barker
14. Self-Care as an Act of Warfare: A Black Women's Reading Group
Held the third Thursday of month. The group is free to attend. Group members get a 20% discount if they choose to buy the upcoming book from the shop. The event is open to all women (trans, intersex and cis) of Black African and Caribbean descent. Black non-binary, agender or gender variant people who feel they can contribute to and benefit from attending are welcome.

15. London Pacifism and Nonviolence Discussion Group
Housmans has a regular Pacifism and Nonviolence Discussion Group, who meet on the second Tuesday of the month. All are welcome, but please be prepared to join in the discussion. Please try to turn up by 7pm sharp.
In MAY (on Tuesday 14 May), we aim to talk about PACIFISM AND RESISTANCE. And in June (on Tuesday 11 June) the topic will be PACIFISM AND INTERNATIONALISM.
